Licensing Boot Camp Question Follow up
Yesterday during our licensing bootcamp discussion, I was asked about the licensing requirements for running Windows Vista in virtual machines for their users to access. I wasn't able to answer the question at the time, but I've been able to research the question and found the following:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/enterprise/datasheets.mspx
There are multiple links on this page, but this link is actually a document that details the various scenarios.
Licensing Windows Vista for Use with Virtual Machine Technologies
Check out page 5, it discusses Windows Vista on a Virtual Server (or Hyper-V) scenario. So it looks like you need SA for your copy of Windows Vista and then you need to acquire the Windows Vista Enterprise Centralized Desktop for Software Assurance (VECD for Software Assurance) add-on.
This confuses me as well, so you will need to review the document I pointed you to and then work with your licensing specialist to ensure you're compliant.
I apologize that I cannot provide a clear answer on this, but I'd rather point you in the right direction than give you incorrect information.
Until next time!
